Kayak trip to Sayan
Kayaking in Sayan Mountains
This year we are organising the kayak trip to one of the most amazing places on Earth – land of high waterfalls and pristine nature – Sayan Mountains, Siberia. In this journey you will see everything – the deep canyons, big volume rapids, turquoise rivers, waterfalls, an abundance of fish, berries and mushrooms. This is a true 2-week long adventure, far from civilization, and work problems. During this trip you will learn all the nuances of the expedition kayaking, different tactics and techniques, as well as put your strength to test.
This is going to be a 2-week long self supported adventure, far from civilization and people. No roads, no shops, no cars. We have to get from point “A” to point “B”. During this trip you will learn all the nuances of the expedition kayaking, different tactics and techniques, as well as put your strength to test.
We will paddle 2 rivers in Sayan Mountains, lake Baikal area. Kitoy river and one of it’s tributary Biluti river. The Kitoy river is a big water (around 80-120cms, can be more after the rain) class III-IV with few class V rapids, but if you feel not strong enough you can easy portage (walk around) them. The Biluti river is small volume creek with good number of drops from 1-12 meters. It is also possible to portage the rapids what you don’t like. But overall – all the drops are clean and pretty safe.
Difficulty of the whole trip is class IV. But keep in mind that this is big volume class IV as well as this is a long self supported trip which requires stabile physical and mental conditions. So, you have to feel confident on the rivers with this grade. Good eskimo roll required!
Requirements to participants:
Good eskimo-roll, the whitewater experience of class IV and higher, good hiking skills.
Guides in tour:
You have to take the flight from your place to–>Moscow–>Irkutsk and the same way back. We will meet you in Irkutsk and we’ll drive to the put-in of the Kitoy river. After 12 days we will reach the first village where will be the meeting point with our vans.
You have to come with your own paddling gear + kayak and paddles as well as your own camping gear.
We cook on the fire and sleep under the tarps. We will bring all the food with us, but as well there is a good fishing in this area. If you don’t have the experience in expedition kayaking, download a list of stuff what you have to have in this kind of adventures. But make sure that all your equipment fits in your boat. No raft support in this trip, all your gear you have to carry by yourself.
